All-New Education Event!
Join us for this exciting new opportunity for quilters to get the most out of your Art & Stitch digitizing software! We’re pleased to be hosting well-known educator Carol Best, a “computer geek with a quilting problem” and owner of Simply the Best Quilting in Rochester, MN.
Art & Stitch is THE super-powered software for both longarm quilting and machine embroidery digitizing. Whether you already own the software and want to brush on your techniques, or you’re a total newbie who wants to know what all the fuss about, this two-day retreat will have you bursting with new knowledge and inspiration to take your craft to the next level with improved skills and great ideas!
Our retreat offers four DIFFERENT skill-building sessions over four days. Pick and choose which ones you want to attend, or save when you register for all for with the BUNDLE!
The sessions are 9AM to 12PM and 1PM to 4PM on both days, with a break for lunch in between.
Skill Builder 1 – April 27 – 9AM to 12PM
For those with no experience, or who’d like to get a refresher on the basics of Art & Stitch.
This hands-on class will cover basic features of Art & Stitch. You’ll learn how to draw, edit, apply stitches, and save your designs to take to your quilting system. We’ll be using the powerful vector tools to learn how to draw designs with quilting in mind. Don’t worry if you can’t draw! You’ll be taught how to use the backdrop tool to trace ordinary images and then turn them into extraordinary designs! You will then learn to manipulate the nodes and anchors on designs you’ve created. We’ll also look at how to edit existing designs you already own. We’ll end this session with the magic of Art & Stitch using the Magic Square, Magic Circle, and Magic Ray features that turn simple doodles into award winning designs!
Skill Builder 2 – April 27 – 1PM to 4PM
For confident beginners – those who are comfortable with the Art & Stitch drawing tools.
You now know the basics, so let’s build on those skills and learn advanced features of Art & Stitch. In this hands-on class, we’ll start by looking at the many different fill types, such as Cross Hatching, Creative Fill, and Motif Fills. Fun with TrueType fonts will be next, as we learn how to personalize a design or create artwork from object based fonts. We’ll then learn how to create continuous line designs, using features like Connect, Combine, Merge, and Exclude. We’ll end this session by looking at the bread and butter of longarm quilting: Edge to Edge designs with the Meander Anything and Power Copy tools.
Skill Builder 3 – April 28 – 9AM to 12PM
Designed with the confident Art & Stitch users in mind. You should have successfully digitized designs prior to this class.
This hands-on class is for those who want to digitize like a professional! You’ve learned the basics and have added some advanced techniques from the previous Skill Builder classes. Now we’ll apply these skills and put them to work in your quilting projects. This class will start by providing ideas on where to look for design inspiration. From that inspiration, we’ll learn to create design sets that include blocks, borders, mitered corners, and E2E. We’ll look at techniques such as interlocking designs, feathers, pearls, and more as time permits.
Skill Builder 4 – April 28 – 1PM to 4PM
For those who are comfortable with the basics of Art & Stitch and are curious about how to use it with other hardware and software programs.
This class will get you thinking outside the box of traditional digitizing. We’ll look at how EQ7 can be used in conjunction with Art & Stitch. You’ll learn how to use both programs to audition designs on your quilt, and reduce the time it takes to layout designs when you get to your quilting system. We’ll then go Beyond the Mouse! You’ll be shown how to use your iPad or Android tablet to draw designs, and then send them to Art & Stitch, ready to apply stitches. You’ll also learn how to create an e-Catalog of all of your designs, and save it to your iPad or Android tablet to access where ever you go. We’ll finish this class by looking at how digital die cutters can be used with Art & Stitch. Designs created in Art & Stitch can be cut from a wide variety of media, such as template plastic and fabric just to name a few. This dynamic duo makes applique, mixed media, and fiber art projects so much more fun!
PLEASE NOTE: If you already own Art & Stitch, please bring your laptop with the software installed to get the most out of this retreat! If you DON’T yet own Art & Stitch, we can fix that for you with great retreat-only pricing!
